Assisted Stretching & Joint Mobilisation
(Bodywork)
What Assisted Stretch Therapy Is
Assisted Stretch Therapy is a hands‑on, movement‑based modality that combines passive stretching, gentle joint mobilisation, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) techniques to improve flexibility, mobility, and overall ease of movement. Unlike stretching on your own, this modality allows your body to fully relax while the practitioner guides your limbs through safe, supported ranges of motion.
By working with the natural rhythm of your breath and the responsiveness of your nervous system, Assisted Stretch Therapy helps release muscular tension, lengthen tight tissues, and restore freedom through the joints. It is deeply supportive for anyone experiencing stiffness, restricted movement, or postural strain.
How Assisted Stretch Therapy Works
This modality blends four key approaches:
Joint Mobilisation - Slow, controlled movements help lubricate the joints, improve glide, and restore comfortable range of motion.
Passive Stretching - You remain relaxed while your muscles are gently lengthened, allowing deeper release without strain.
Active Stretching - You actively engage the muscle being stretched while the practitioner provides support and guidance. This helps strengthen the muscle through its lengthened range, improves neuromuscular control, and enhances long‑term mobility.
PNF Stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) - A technique involving gentle activation of the opposing muscle while stretching the target muscle, creating slight resistence. This helps reset the muscle’s length and improves flexibility more effectively than stretching alone.

Together, these techniques work with the nervous system to reduce guarding, soften tension, and create long‑lasting improvements in mobility. Assisted Stretch Therapy is especially beneficial for people who feel “tight,” restricted, or limited in their movement patterns.
